A4, updates as you typeWhat a GST tax invoice must contain
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists tax-invoice particulars. Check which apply to your supply. This builder does not verify every required field or register an e-invoice.
- Your name, address and GSTIN.
- A consecutive invoice number, unique for the financial year, of up to 16 characters.
- The date of issue.
- The customer's name and address, and their GSTIN if they are registered.
- The HSN code for goods or the SAC code for services.
- A description, the quantity and the unit.
- The taxable value after any discount.
- The rate and amount of CGST and SGST, or of IGST.
- The place of supply, with the state, for a supply between states.
- Whether tax is payable on reverse charge.
- Your signature, or a digital signature.
CGST and SGST, or IGST
In general, an intra-State supply uses CGST and SGST as separate amounts; an inter-State supply uses IGST. The place-of-supply rules determine the classification. The GST type control only changes the printed tax lines; it does not classify a transaction or handle export endorsements.
The place of supply decides which applies, not where the invoice is written. For goods it is usually where they are delivered; for most services it is the customer's location if they are registered.
HSN and SAC codes
HSN codes classify goods and SAC codes classify services. Enter the applicable code on each line. Current invoice particulars and return reporting can differ; check official GST guidance for the code length that applies to your supply.
What this generator does not do
It prints one GST rate for the whole invoice. If your items carry different rates, issue them on separate invoices or use accounting software built for GST.
It does not register or sign invoices on an Invoice Registration Portal. Where the e-invoicing mandate applies, obtain an IRN and signed QR code through an IRP before treating this PDF as a compliant e-invoice. Check the current AATO and transaction scope.

How to make a tax invoice
- Enter your business name, and your address with your GSTIN on its own line.
- Add the customer, with their GSTIN if they are registered.
- Add each item with its HSN or SAC code, quantity and rate.
- Choose CGST + SGST for a supply within your state, or IGST for a supply to another state, and set the rate.
- Add the place of supply in the notes, then download the PDF.
Questions about tax invoices
- When do I charge CGST and SGST, and when IGST?
- The tax type follows the place-of-supply rules. In general, intra-State supplies use CGST plus SGST and inter-State supplies use IGST. Export invoices can have additional endorsement and tax-treatment requirements; this form does not decide them for you.
- Where do I put my GSTIN?
- In your address details, on its own line, for example GSTIN 27AAPFU0939F1ZV. Put the customer's GSTIN in their address the same way.
- Do I have to show HSN codes?
- Enter the HSN for goods or SAC for services required for your supply. The applicable number of digits and reporting rules can change; check current GST guidance for your business rather than relying on a fixed turnover split here.
- Does this generate an e-invoice with an IRN?
- No. GSTN-authorized IRP guidance currently describes the e-invoicing mandate for covered entities with AATO of ₹10 crore or more on B2B and export invoices. If it applies to your document, obtain the IRN and signed QR code through an IRP. This tool only generates a PDF draft; it does not register or sign it.
- Is anything I type sent anywhere?
- No. The invoice is built in your browser and saved to your own device.
